The role

The Associate Director of Principal Gift Development develops, implements, and manages effective multi-year strategies for the qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of principal gift level prospects, including individual donors, foundations, and institutional prospects. This role focuses on building a principal gift portfolio and raising impactful gifts for The Nature Conservancy’s mission and campaign, with an emphasis on wealth markets such as Chicago.

What you'll do

  • Qualify at least ten principal gift-level prospects in the first year
  • Build a portfolio of UHNW donors
  • Solicit and manage a portfolio of 25-40 donors
  • Manage assigned trustee relationships and/or volunteer engagement
  • Adhere to TNC’s stated values and donor database
  • Travel frequently and on short notice

What it takes

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years related experience
  • Experience building a portfolio and maintaining long-term relationships with UHNW donors
  • Experience in asking for and closing seven-figure gifts
  • Experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors
  • Experience in fundraising principles and practices
  • Advanced knowledge of complex charitable gift planning
