The role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking an Asia Pacific REDD+ Safeguards Expert to provide technical assistance on social and environmental safeguards in the Asia Pacific region. The role involves supporting countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Vietnam, and others in meeting ART-TREES standards and strengthening national safeguard systems. Based in Bangkok, this 6-month consultancy focuses on capacity building, policy advice, and strategic expansion of the UN-REDD program.

What you'll do

  • Provide technical advice on in-country safeguards activities for the Asia Pacific region.
  • Draft, review, and improve technical documents related to social and environmental safeguards.
  • Develop tools, presentations, and guidance materials on safeguard requirements.
  • Plan and deliver capacity-building events and training sessions.
  • Support strategic expansion of UN-REDD across the Asia Pacific region.
  • Coordinate with national partners and international agencies.

What it takes

  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in environmental science, social science, or related fields.
  • Minimum five years experience in REDD+, forestry, and climate mitigation.
  • Experience in social and environmental safeguards in research and capacity building.
  • Fluency in oral and written English.
  • Knowledge of report writing and editing with Microsoft Office skills.
  • Previous experience working with international organizations is an advantage.
