The role
The incumbent supports the coordination, monitoring, safety, and emergency response aspects of UN aviation operations, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of aircraft, passengers, cargo, and aviation support services in accordance with United Nations aviation standards and procedures.
What you'll do
- Assists in coordinating routine passenger, cargo, logistics resupply, special, VIP, military operational, casualty evacuation (CASEVAC), and medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) flights
- Assists in flight following and coordinating integrated search and rescue operations involving UN air assets
- Assists in coordinating diplomatic overflight and landing clearances, ground handling services, and support arrangements for aircrews, including accommodation, transportation, and meals
- Assists in planning and coordinating aircraft parking locations and apron utilization
- Assists in monitoring aircraft refuelling and fuel uploads in accordance with aviation safety procedures
- Operates Airport Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) when required and authorized
What it takes
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Technical or vocational training in Air Operations, Airport Operations, Aviation Management, Aviation Safety, Flight Dispatch, Fire Safety, Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Emergency Management, or a related field is desirable
- Training or certification in Firefighting, Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), is desirable
- A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in air operations, airport operations, aviation support services, ground handling, aviation safety, movement control, or a related field is required
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required. The table below shows the minimum required level for each skill in these languages, according to the UN Language Framework
